I have a new friend in Costa Rica. I had read Teri's website, yo-yoinparadise.blogspot.com/ all about her life here in Costa Rica. Her story was impressive to me as she packed up and moved here not speaking much Spanish. I think that's pretty courageous and involved an extraordinary amount of faith. I sent her a note and the next thing I knew, she was my friend. She introduced me on her website, sent me really helpful information and hints and she even went out looking for a Queen Size bed for me! Who does that for someone they've never even met? Teri, that's who! Well, we finally met yesterday. Adrian and I went out to her neck of the woods. Teri was perfectly lovely and we set out to find a spot for us to have breakfast and Adrian to hit the surf. Teri took us to a nearby hotel that was really pretty and we had a very tasty breakfast of pancakes and coffee. Afterwards, Teri took some great shots of Adrian surfing. She was also nice enough to introduce Adrian to an experienced surfer named Pelingo. Interesting and charming guy, originally from Venezuela, who left when he realized the whack-job Chavez was taking over and knew Chavez was even more dangerous to his people than Castro was to his. But that sort of thing is political and I will use great restraint and leave it at that!
Here is Adrian with Pelingo after they had little surf session and chat. After Adrian dried off, Teri took us on a little tour of the area. We went to Bubba's for fish tacos and French fries that were really good. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I will certainly be going back to Bubba's. In my life, I don't think I have ever eaten at a place named Bubba's! Then we toured the area for furniture stores and Teri showed me a fabulous store called Tips. It's a restaurant supply store so it has everything from blenders and fryers to martini glasses and cookie sheets. Happy day for me!!! I hope to go back there soon with a list of things I absolutely 'need'! I didn't trust myself to start collecting items yesterday and also, even though Adrian was a great sport, I could see his eyes glazing over with every passing store we wandered in to. After a while, it was time to come home so that Adrian would have time to take a nap before teaching English in the evening. It was a lovely day and as we dropped Teri off at home, I had a chance to get a good look at three of her protectors.
These guys are fierce! I imagine no one will mess with Teri with these guys around!
