"Hell is the suffering of being unable to love". Dostoevsky
I saw this quote by one of my very favorite writers and it got me wondering. Is this really true? I mean, what about the suffering that comes from loving too much and not being loved in return? That's not nothing. And do people who are unable to love, really care? Do they even know what they are missing? Sure, the rest of us understand the profound deficit but would someone unable to love have any idea what an extraordinary and profound loss they're walking around with?
If you have never read anything by my beloved Fyodor Dostoevsky, you should pick up a copy of Notes from the Underground. Or The Idiot or Crime and Punishment. Or The Brothers Karamazov. Brilliant. All of them. Do yourself a favor, read them!
