Baucus Plan Allows for Fines Up to $3,800 for Failing to Get Health Insurance
The plan from Democratic Sen. Max Baucus of Montana would make health insurance mandatory, just like auto coverage.

Families who fail to get health insurance could be fined up to $3,800 under a health care reform plan proposed by a top Senate negotiator.
Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., who as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee is leading talks among the "Gang of Six" senators to hammer out a bipartisan compromise, offered what he described on Tuesday as a "framework" and not a "final product."
But the detailed proposal comes just days ahead of a self-imposed Sept. 15 deadline for such a deal. Baucus is pushing his committee members hard to hammer out a bill, and those details come as strong suggestions.
The framework, a copy of which was obtained by FOX News, includes what amounts to a no-choice option. It would make health insurance mandatory, like auto insurance.
The plan would provide tax credits to help small employers and help cover the cost for households making up to three times the federal poverty level. That's about $66,000 for a family of four, and $32,000 for an individual.
Those who still don't sign up would face hefty fines, starting at $750 a year for individuals and $1,500 for families -- for those making up to three times the poverty level.
For those who make more than that, the penalty on individuals would jump to $950 and the penalty on families would jump to $3,800.
There would be a few exemptions, including for Native Americans and for those making incomes below the federal poverty level. (And let's not forget the illegal aliens. You think they will have to pay a fine? Living in So Cal, my car was hit by an illegal (and me 8 months pregnant at the time) who didn't have a license or insurance. Can't get blood from a turnip and the police didn't make it to the scene so guess who paid for the damage to my car while the illegal went on his merry way? Ah yes, the wisdom from the left...)
You WILL be a socialist, and YOU WILL LIKE IT!!!
I wonder what the prison term is for failure to pay the fine...
Come and get me.

dc,
They will come and get you, you know. But first, they'll take your guns! Or try, anyway!

"The framework, a copy of which was obtained by FOX News, includes what amounts to a no-choice option. It would make health insurance mandatory, like auto insurance."
There was a townhall protester on Mark Levin who posterized (basketball term for a monster dunk over an outstretched defender) a town hall moderator who likened an objection to mandatory health insurance to the states' legislation of mandatory auto insurance. He replied that first of all, driving is a privilege (apparently granted to taxpayers who pay for the roads and the police to patrol them, but in any event) - and driving can possibly be avoided. Auto insurance premiums also reward people for good driving records; apparently there is no penalty for bad health under Obamascare except, you guessed it, folks, "DEATH PANELS!!"
If any Olbermann Canblowme should teleport into here and challenge this, OF COURSE it doesn't say DEATH PANELS on the legislation, just like the FEMA camps under construction are called "HAPPY CAMPS" and not "DEATH CAMPS." In Britain there is a black ribbon panel of advisers under the acronym "NICE" that decides who lives and who dies; apparently based on such criteria as: Did I wake up on the right side of the bed today? Did I have too much to drink last night? How are things with my significant other? Peachy? And the vitally crucial: Did I get any nookie this weekend?

I am more interested in knowing what relevance the above picture had to do with this discussion? Is it from the Sludge Report?

Dear Sarah,
I think the picture really captures the spirit of some illegals we have here, in California. They work the system, getting food stamps, 'free' healthcare, welfare, free breakfast and lunch for the kids at school and subsidized housing while citizens who work, but don't earn enough to live on, get little help. I worked in a public high school in the ghetto, as an interpreter, and I could write a book about the monster we have created; illiterate parents whose children threaten to call immigration if they are disciplined, and abuses of everything offered to the poor. Their kids even get free vaccines from the school nurse. I have a relative who is a single mother who worked her tail off and got NO HELP in raising her son. Even now, illegals get more help in college tuition that the children of American working poor. It's true. Way to go, bleeding-heart liberals.

Sarah,
One more thing, before you or someone so much like you, calls me racist again; I AM Mexican. Here legally. My parents, who were educated, and came here in the 60's to launch the first Spanish-language network, came here legally. They were unfailingly disappointed in their people, who would come here and take advantage of everything EXCEPT the free English classes! The more things change, the more they stay the same!

RJ,
It's just another example of newspeak from the left. Of course, you won't find the words, Death Panel, in the bill, duh!
Their words are simply happy fun language they think they can dupe us with like 'stimulus plan' and cap and trade.

re Mark Levin: it is interesting that he runs a 501C(3) (is it a real job?), but constantly harps about "liberals" and "those trial lawyers" and democrats, while promoting various right-wing causes as well as particular republican candidates on the radio. Seems like a conflict of interest to me, something the FCC and the IRS should investigate; maybe we can silence this a%%hole without the trouble of invoking various homeland security laws which seem to indicate he could be considered a threat to the government and should be jailed. Too much paperwork the hard way.

Yes. Let's jail dissidents! ALL HAIL GOVERNMENT!! FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
Why stop at jail? Lets round up all the dissidents and put them in very special camps. Yes.
I thought dissent was the new patriotism? Maybe that's only if dissent= belief in communism/statism.
